Taco ‘bout it: Bedford’s Del Taco opens soon

Briana Pace | Southern Indiana Business Report

At the corner of Limestone Drive and John A Williams Boulevard in Bedford, Indiana’s first Del Taco location is nearly open for business and is offering the chance at free tacos for a year.

To celebrate, the restaurant is hosting a ribbon cutting for Bedford Chamber of Commerce members only on Monday, September 14, from 3-8 p.m. and a grand opening Wednesday, September 16 at 10 a.m.

“The countdown is on and we are as excited as you are!” a Bedford Chamber of Commerce Facebook post said.

At the ribbon cutting, from 3-4 p.m. guests can try free appetizers and “promptly” at 3:30 p.m., Del Taco and the Bedford Chamber of Commerce will cut the ribbon. According to the chamber’s event page, “VIP service” will begin at 4 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m.

To attend the event, you must be a Bedford Chamber of Commerce member and RSVP. So far, 41 people have registered.

On September 16 at the grand opening, the first 100 people in line will receive two free tacos every week for a year. Celebrations will begin at 10 a.m., but some suspect the line will form long before then.

“So, is there a betting game on when the first person will actually get in line? I guess September 14 noonish, a full 46 hours before opening,” Holly Wray commented on the Bedford Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook post advertising the event.

The same post also says the Del Taco of Bedford strongly discourages loitering.

Del Taco announced a 10-unit development across Indiana in February 2025; Beford is the first of the project to open. The fast-food chain was created in California during 1964 serving tacos, tostadas, fries and cheeseburgers.

It has since expanded to nearly 600 locations across over 15 states.
