Employers committed to hiring veterans eligible for federal HIRE Vets Medallion recognition

Carol Johnson | Southern Indiana Business Report

With its robust defense economy, the Radius Indiana region is home to many employers who recruit and hire military veterans.

Employers who actively support veterans, transitioning service members, National Guard members and military spouses in their workforce are encouraged to apply for the U.S. Department of Labor’s HIRE Vets Medallion Program, a federal award that recognizes employers for their commitment to recruiting, employing and retaining members of the military community.

Chaze Patrick is the Veteran Engagement Manager for the Southern Region of INvets, a nonprofit that helps military veterans and those transitioning out of military service find careers and communities in Indiana.

Patrick said companies that are supportive of veterans deserve to be recognized.

“This would be a feather in the cap for those companies. Not only will they receive recognition on a statewide level, but on a national level as well,” he said. “The Radius region has many companies supportive of our veterans. They understand the transferable skills the military community has and how that will allow them to hit their objectives and recruitment goals.”

Indiana is also a great state for welcoming veterans transitioning back to civilian life. Patrick said Indiana is one of the best states for welcoming military veterans. The state offers veterans property tax deductions, income tax exemptions on military survivor benefits and vehicle excise tax credits.

Additionally, the Radius region’s low cost of living, unique communities and Choose Southern Indiana talent incentive program make the region attractive to veterans.

“We’d love to see our INvets partners recognized for the great work they’re already doing,” Patrick said.

The deadline to apply is Thursday, April 30.

Qualification tiers (Platinum, Gold, and Silver) are based on measurable veteran employment and retention criteria, and organizations of all sizes are encouraged to apply.
