Southern Indiana Business Report

PETERSBURG – Interested in learning about housing opportunities in Pike County? The Pike County Neighborhood Development Panel will share the latest information about housing developments on Aug. 13 at the Elmer Buchta Technology Center in Petersburg.

The panel discussion is free to attend and will feature the following panelists:

  • Ruger Kerstiens, president of Premier Properties
  • RC Klipsch, mayor of Petersburg
  • Ashley Willis, executive director of the Pike County Economic Development Corporation

The panel is from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and will be followed by a presentation from 6 to 6:30 p.m. by Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company  on tips for becoming a homeowner.

Pike County has several housing projects that are in various stages of development, Willis said, from townhouse style duplexes and rental cottages to single-family homes.

Knowing the homebuying process can be intimidating, Willis said the goal of the panel and having lenders available to explain the process is to allay some of those fears homebuyers might have.

Investing in infrastructure has been crucial to support housing growth in Pike County. Willis said Mayor Klipsch has been forward thinking when it comes to infrastructure. The city has invested nearly $50 million in new wastewater and water treatment facilities.

Pike County has several housing projects in development. Premier Properties, a Dubois County developer, is wrapping up construction of 24 townhouse units in Petersburg.

New Hope Services of New Albany has built 12 duplexes and is currently constructing additional units.

Ramirez Construction has built 20 cottage-style homes that are available for rent.

Meadows Subdivision, which received READI 1.0 funds, is set to begin construction later this year. Willis said Phase 1 will have 24 lots for single family homes and the entire subdivision has a full built out of 102 lots.
