Senior LPGA Championship coming to Sultan’s Run in Jasper

Former golf greats will compete June 29-July 1 on new course

Southern Indiana Business Report

JASPER – The LPGA’s Senior Championship is returning to southern Indiana in 2023.

Sultan’s Run Golf Club in Jasper will host the sixth playing of the Legends of the LPGA’s Senior LPGA Championship.

The tournament originated in French Lick starting in 2017 and moved to Salina, Kansas in 2022. Sultan’s Run is just 30 miles south of French Lick. Sultan’s Run Golf Club opened in 1992 and went through a redesign by Pete Dye disciple Tim Liddy in 1996.

The 2023 tournament will take place from June 29 to July 1. Players will compete for $400,000 with no cut being made during the week.

“Sultan’s Run is thrilled to be counted among 250 of more than 15,000 golf courses nationwide who have the distinction of hosting a professional golf tournament,” said Chris Tretter, co-owner of Sultan’s Run Golf Club. “We appreciate the Tour’s trust in our quality and capability.  We look forward to showcasing our community, our premium course and our hospitality to players and spectators from far and near.”

“The decision to hold the Senior LPGA at Sultan’s Run provides an opportunity for our local area to showcase one of the best golf courses and entertainment/tourism regions in the United States. We look forward to welcoming the players and guests,” said Jasper Mayor Dean Vonderheide.

The 2023 tournament field has not been set yet and follows strong competition in 2022. World Golf Hall of Famer, Annika Sorenstam headlined the list of competitors, but fellow Hall of Famer, Karrie Webb came out on top. The pair talked highly of their experience competing against other Legends of the LPGA.

“Playing in the 2022 LPGA Senior Championship was a great week from start to finish. Catching up with players and friends that I hadn’t seen for a while was special,” said Webb. “Obviously winning was exciting and icing on the cake. Going head-to-head with Annika over the weekend was a blast from the past. It was a great feeling to be back in a position to win, with all the nerves and adrenaline flowing, to then be able to play well enough when it counted. I look forward to defending my title this year at Sultan’s Run Golf Course in Indiana.”

About Sultan’s Run
