FRENCH LICK – The Sand Creek Course at the French Lick Resort opens Thursday and already the short course is a hot ticket as the Resort continues to grow its reputation as a golf destination.
Dave Harner, director of golf operations at the French Lick Resort, said 2,400 rounds have been booked already and he is predicting Sand Creek will have a busy inaugural season.
“I think once the word gets out, it will go quickly,” he said. “I can see having 15,000 people on it this summer.”
The nine-hole course is designed to be the sweet spot for a range of golfers, from the serious player who wants to play a quick round, to the beginner who isn’t ready for the challenge of four hours on a championship-level course. Because it can be played in about 90 minutes, it’s ideal for families and friendly foursomes, Harner said.

“We just had our maintenance crew out here and half of them have never played and they all had a great time,” Harner said.
Sand Creek is located near the Resort’s Valley Links Course and Event Center. Holes range in distance from 35 yards to 90 yards. Russ Apple, Resort golf superintendent, designed the course, which was constructed by Resort staff.
The Resort is home to three golf courses, the award-winning Pete Dye, Donald Ross and Valley Links.
“Sand Creek gives us another avenue for entertainment,” he said. “The people who don’t play golf can still play golf here.”
