HUNTINGBURG – Indiana Gov. Mike Braun is among the speakers and guests that will attend a groundbreaking ceremony Friday on a new terminal at the Huntingburg Regional Airport (KHNB).
The public is invited to the ceremony, slated to begin at 8:45 a.m.
The Frosty Jones Terminal will replace the current terminal building, which has served the airport since the 1960s.
Friday’s event marks the official start of construction on a $6 million facility that will become the welcoming doorway to the southwest region of Indiana. The Huntingburg Regional Airport received a $3.3 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Terminal Program to construct the new terminal.
According to a press release, the terminal will greatly enhance office and meeting space for the airport and its customers; provide a classroom for local students taking part in the aviation program; and a space for pilots to rest.
The terminal will bear the name of the Duff native who was credited with creating the airstrip. In 1939, Forrest “Frosty” Jones, aided by a donation from local business owner and Huntingburg Kiwanis Club, bought the strip of land that would later become the Huntingburg Regional Airport.
Community members, aviation enthusiasts, business leaders, educators, and public officials are encouraged to attend and witness this historic event.
The airport is located at 2600 W. 900 S., Huntingburg.
