BEDFORD – Two jobs fairs are scheduled this month in the Radius Indiana region to help connect employers with job seekers.
- StoneGate Arts & Education Center, 931 15th St., Bedford, will have a job fair Wednesday, May 15, from 2-5 p.m. More than a dozen employers are registered and include General Motors and representatives from home health care, long-term care, hospitality and HVAC. At 1 p.m., a free session of “How to work a job fair” will be held for job seekers. In addition to StoneGate, job fair sponsors are WorkOne South Central, Bedford Chamber of Commerce, United Way of South Central Indiana and Lawrence County Economic Growth Council.
Lawrence County’s unemployment rate in March was 4.7%. That rate was down slightly from February’s rate of 4.8% but higher than March 2023 when the jobless rate was 4.5%. Lawrence County was ranked No. 14 out of 92 counties for unemployment.
- Martin County will host a job fair May 29 from 2-5 p.m. at 99 W. Washington St., Loogootee. Tips on how to get the most out of a job fair will begin at 1 p.m. Job fair sponsors are the Martin County Alliance for Economic Growth, Work One South Central and KCARC.
Martin County’s unemployment rate in March was 3.4% That rate was down from February’s rate of 3.5% but higher than March 2023 when the rate was 3.2%
Indiana’s jobless rate in March was 4.1%. The state’s labor force was estimated at 3,366,199 and 137,491 residents were unemployed.
Those seeking employment at either job fair should bring a resume and be prepared to complete a job application and possible job interview. A computer lab will be available for online applications.
