JASPER – Josh Gunselman was announced Wednesday as the new director of Community Development and Planning for the city of Jasper.
Gunselman previously served 14 years on the Jasper Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission, including seven years as chairman.
A press release from the city of Jasper touted Gunselman’s extensive experience and understanding of zoning regulations and planning processes that made him an ideal choice for the role.
As director of Community Development and Planning, Gunselman will oversee the administration of the city’s comprehensive plan and unified development ordinance, ensuring adherence to zoning regulations and fostering sustainable growth. He will facilitate informed decision-making and collaborative efforts by providing support to the Planning Commission, Jasper Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), Economic Development Commission and Redevelopment Commission.
“I am deeply honored to join the City of Jasper as the Director of Community Development and Planning,” said Gunselman. ” I am eager to work closely with Mayor Vonderheide, community organizations, and residents to create a vibrant and prosperous future that preserves the unique character defining Jasper.”
Gunselman’s primary focus will be building strong partnerships with various stakeholders, including businesses, non-profits, educational institutions, community groups, residents, and state/local leaders. By fostering collaboration and engagement, he aims to identify new development opportunities, attract investments and align community development efforts with the economic growth and revitalization strategies outlined in the Jasper Comprehensive Plan.
Mayor Vonderheide shared his enthusiasm about Josh’s appointment.
