13 cities, towns, counties in Radius Indiana area chosen
Carol Johnson, Southern Indiana Business Report
A total of 229 Indiana cities, towns and counties were awarded more than $119 million in state matching funds for local road projects through Community Crossings, a component of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s Next Level Roads program.
The awards were announced this week by the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Communities submitted applications for funding in July and August. Funding for the program comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. The Community Crossings initiative has provided more than $1 billion in state-matching funds for local construction projects since 2016.
To qualify for funding, local governments must provide local matching funds of 50% for larger communities or 25% for smaller communities and have an asset management plan for maintaining existing roads and bridges. State law requires annually that 50% of the available matching funds be awarded to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer.
Thirteen communities in the eight-county Radius Indiana received project funds. Dubois County as well as Ferdinand, Huntingburg and Jasper were awarded funds. In Orange County, the towns of Orleans, Paoli and West Baden received funds.
