The first phase of Kimball Electronics’ rebrand to Kimball Solutions is complete. The company announced the successful implementation of the new name at its Jasper and Indianapolis facilities July 15.
The decision to rebrand came as executives of the company realized the name “Kimball Electronics” did not reflect its full capabilities. Two years ago, customers started recognizing that Kimball offers much more than just electronics.
“They would say, ‘Wow! Once we get to know you, you do so much more. You provide so many more solutions than just the electronics,’” Director of Marketing and Research at Kimball Solutions, Mary Leah Siegel, said.
By changing the company’s name, the business shows how it has evolved, and continues to evolve, according to Executive Director of Dubious Strong Economic Development Corporation, Colten Pipenger.
“It’s not just electronics anymore,” Pipenger said.
The name “Kimball Electronics” implied a focus on electronics and limited customers’ perception of what services the company really offers.
From plastics injection molding and cold chain management of pharmaceutical drugs, to design and engineering services, Kimball Solutions’ capabilities range far outside just electronics. They concentrate on medical sciences, automotive components and industrial work. The rebrand is meant to reflect that.
“That was the trick: find a word or a name that worked for all three,” Siegel said.
This is not the first time that Kimball has undergone a rebrand. In 2014, they spun off from “Kimball International” and became “Kimball Electronics”. The decision to become “electronics” was based on a name study. In the same evaluation, “solutions” came in second place.
“We truly provide solutions,” Siegel said.
The full rebrand will take place in a staged approach. Jasper and Indianapolis were first for the change; next will be Mexico and China in December. In July 2027, the rest of Kimball Solutions’ global facilities; Thailand, Poland and Romania, to name a few; will finish the initiative.
