New affordable senior-living neighborhood open in Bedford

Briana Pace | Southern Indiana Business Report

Nestled on Shawnee Drive, past assisted living homes and StoneBridge Health Campus sits Bedford’s newest affordable senior living community: Limestone Edge.

Developed by Hoosier Uplands, the 32-unit neighborhood project began in 2024 and officially opened Aug. 13, 2026, with a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration.

“It’s beautiful,” Limestone Edge Apartment Manager Amy Alcorn said. “It’s a beautiful community.”

The community is made of one and two-bedroom duplex-style homes, several of which are Americans with Disabilities Act compliant, with grey vinyl siding and white trim. Every unit comes equipped with a washer and dryer hookup, a stove and refrigerator, plus dark wood cabinets, accented with light counter tops.

Alcorn said they tried to use as many local businesses on the project as possible. The cabinets were designed by Aristokraft Cabinets in Jasper. Other local businesses that helped bring the Limestone Edge project to life include Air-Master in Bedford, Orange County Plumbers and more.

Each home has a front porch that comes with two chairs and a table, provided by Limestone Edge, fostering a sense of togetherness between residents.

Alcorn has already seen tenants sitting in those chairs on their front porches, talking with one another.

“Everybody says they love it,” she said.

Other amenities include a fitness center, community room, arts and crafts room, intergenerational playground, pickleball court, telehealth room and more. There is also a walking path around the entire property.

Limestone Edge was built for the older, middle-to-lower class population. For a single person to qualify for a spot in the community, they must be over 55 years old and have an annual income of $38,000 or less.

Rent ranges from approximately $325 to $730 a month.

Alcorn said Hoosier Uplands recognized there was a large need for a property like Limestone Edge. The economic development corporation has another senior property in Bedford, Stonecutters Place Apartments, where there is a waitlist and constant calls expressing interest in living there.

Every unit at Limestone Edge is currently spoken for and will be completely leased out September 30. The property began receiving applications as soon as the press release announcing the project was published over a year ago.

To be placed on the waitlist, applications can be picked up during office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m, at 3201 Shawnee Drive South, just before the Holiday Inn Express. The property will be live on Hoosier Uplands’ website within a few weeks as well.

Limestone Edge was made possible by the project’s funding partners: Indiana Housing and Community Development, Old National Bank Equity Partners and Old National Bank.

CPM Construction, the Corporation for Supportive HousingMilestone Ventures, the City of Bedford and the Bedford Housing Authority all also played vital roles in supporting the development of Limestone Edge.
