Sultan’s Run, Jasper ready to welcome Senior LPGA players, fans

Southern Indiana Business Report

JASPER With an estimated economic impact of $1 million and thousands of visitors, this week’s Legends of the LPGA golf tournament will showcase Sultan’s Run Golf Club and the city of Jasper.

The Senior LPGA Championship will be played June 29-July 1 at the Jasper golf course. It is the first time Sultan’s Run has hosted an LPGA event.

The field of 73 will compete for a total purse of $400,000 and a winner’s share of $60,000, in a 54-hole stroke-play format, with no cut.

Sultan’s Run has had about six months to prepare for the event.

As reported by Inside Indiana Business, the decision to play at Sultan’s Run was finalized in January. Chris Tretter,  co-owner and general manager at Sultan’s Run Golf Club and tournament director, said most tournaments are planned in 12 months.

Preparations have included arranging for accommodations, transportation and food for players as well as scheduling volunteers, police and medical personnel.

Visit Dubois County Executive Director Whitney Hall Lubbers told IIB the tournament “will put Sultan’s Run on the bucket list of a lot of different golfers and open it up to a larger array of people that want to come to our area.”

Lubbers said the Senior LPGA is the largest event to come to the city and required a commitment of local resources. She said sponsors stepped up to defray costs and volunteers are giving their time to work at the event.

Here’s a look at the Senior LPGA Championship field.

Also, I hope that there will be some good golf in store for me as well.”
