Local Bison Ranch Showcased at State Fair

Southern Indiana Business Report

A Greene County-based bison farm is the recipient of significant new publicity thanks to being featured at the 2022 Indiana State Fair. The 320-acre Red Frazier Bison Ranch, located near Bloomfield, was the Featured Farmer of the Day at the State Fair in late July. The Featured Farmer program, sponsored by Corteva Agriscience, allowed co-owners of the ranch Zach Martin and Justin Walker to expose their product to a large new audience of Fair attendees, as well as receive media coverage from several outlets.

The Greene County facility is home to over 150 bison, one of the largest herds in the State of Indiana, and the meat produced by the ranch is available via online orders and shipments, at retail outlets including the ranch’s own storefront in Bloomington, as well as from a food truck that roams among several gatherings each year. Agriculture is a significant component of the Greene County economy, providing 6.6% of total employment in the county, significantly higher that the national economic average of 1.3% of jobs in agriculture. The sector also accounts for 7.4% of the county’s GDP, notably higher than the national rate of 0.8% of GDP.
