French Lick nominated for USA Today’s Best Small Town, Best Golf Destination; voting ends March 30

Southern Indiana Business Report

FRENCH LICK – French Lick is in the running to be named a top destination in two categories by USA Today.

USA Today’s 10 Best is looking for the Best Small Town in the Midwest and Best Golf Destination.

French Lick is among 20 contenders, including four others from Indiana, for Best Small Town. The other Indiana towns are LaPorte, Madison, Middlebury and Vevay.

The contest is part of USA Today’s 2026  Readers’ Choice Awards. The winner will be determined by public voting.

Timeless French Lick, Orange County’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, is encouraging community members and fans of French Lick, to cast their votes.

“This recognition reflects the collective work of our entire community over many decades. From lodging and attractions to retail, dining, and service partners who create memorable guest experiences every day,” said Makenzie VanHoy, Brand Strategy manager for Timeless French Lick.

Twenty small towns – each with a population of fewer than 25,000 – have been nominated by an expert panel as the best in the region. They are towns that are charming, scenic and have a rich history. In the case of French Lick, it’s a destination that is family-friendly and a golfer’s paradise.

In the category of Best Golf Destination, French Lick is in good company. Others on the list include golf destinations in Maui, Hawaii, Gulf Shores, Alabama and Hilton Head, South Carolina.

VanHoy said receiving recognition by USA Today goes beyond bragging rights.

“This designation carries real strategic value. National rankings strengthen our sales positioning with meeting planners and group tour operators,” VanHoy said. “They add credibility in conversations with leisure travelers comparing destinations. They also attract travel writers, influencers, and media outlets who look to lists like this when selecting future stories and features. Recognition at this level directly supports visitation, overnight stays, and long-term brand growth.”

VanHoy is asking for the community’s help by voting daily and sharing the voting link on their social media pages. Voting ends on March 30 at 11:59 p.m. EDT, and you can vote once per day. The winning small towns will be announced April 8.
