Amazon to build new delivery station in Vincennes; investment to add jobs, accelerate deliveries

Southern Indiana Business Report

VINCENNES – Amazon announced today it will build a new 104,000-square-foot delivery station in Vincennes.

The planned Vincennes delivery station is part of Amazon’s expansion of its operational investments in Indiana.

“Amazon already provides excellent services to Vincennes and the Knox County region, and we’re grateful to see this new local delivery station expansion raise the performance bar even higher,” said Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum. “We appreciate Amazon’s confidence and strategic vision in making this important investment in Vincennes and the region through job creation and other positive economic benefits.”

According to a news release from Amazon, delivery stations power the last mile of Amazon’s order process and help speed up deliveries. Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighboring Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers. An average of 170 jobs are created at rural delivery stations, plus many more driving opportunities through the Delivery Service Partner (DSP) and Amazon Flex programs.

“We’re excited to bring Amazon’s investment to Vincennes and Knox County,” said Kyle DeGiulio, senior manager of economic development for Amazon. “This delivery station represents more than just faster deliveries – it’s about creating quality jobs with industry-leading pay and benefits, supporting local businesses through our logistics network, and making a long-term commitment to this community. We’re grateful for our partnership with the City of Vincennes and Knox County Economic Development, and we look forward to becoming an active member of the Vincennes community for years to come.”

Amazon’s frontline employees in customer fulfillment and transportation earn an average hourly base wage of more than $23, with total compensation exceeding $30 an hour when including benefits. The company’s comprehensive benefits package includes health, vision, and dental insurance on day one for most employees, free mental health benefits for employees and their households, 401(k) with 50% company match, up to 20 weeks of fully paid leave for new parents, flexible time-off options that increase with tenure, Career Choice (which pre-pays 100% of tuition at more than 300 educational partner institutions across the U.S.), free Prime membership, and discounts on eligible Amazon merchandise.

Launch plans for this delivery station – particularly those around when operations will start and hiring – are in the very early stages, with construction scheduled to start in the coming weeks.

“It is great to see Amazon investing in our community, bringing quality job opportunities and improved service to the Vincennes area. I appreciate the billions of dollars Amazon invests in rural communities across the country,” said US Rep. Mark Messmer, R-Indiana.

“This new Amazon expansion provides strategic benefits to Vincennes, Knox County and the region in several ways,” said Shepard Dunn, an executive with First City Partners, LLC and chairman of Knox County Indiana Economic Development. “The development truly reflects a mutual Opportunity Knox benefit for Amazon, regional residents, businesses and organizations alike.”

Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 24,500 full- and part-time jobs in Indiana and invested more than $31.1 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation to employees. These investments have contributed an additional $29.9 billion to Indiana’s economy and have helped create more than 27,500 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services.

Amazon has invested more than $280 billion in over 1,000 small towns and rural areas across the U.S. since 2010, with two out of five jobs added in the last five years created in communities with populations less than 50,000. The company is investing $4 billion to expand its rural delivery network by the end of 2026, bringing even faster delivery to customers in less densely populated areas.
