Teams from Shoals, Bedford compete in state robotics competition

Teams from the Radius Indiana region advanced to the FIRST Lego League State Championship held Jan. 10 at the University of Indianapolis.

The competition featured 36 teams that advanced from qualifying competitions that took place in December in Vincennes and Fort Wayne. 

Shoals Community School Corporation had two teams advance to the state finals.

RoboRox finished in third place after earning 430 points. They were also awarded a robot game finalist trophy for their score. The RoxStars also competed, finishing in seventh place with a score of 365 points.

The STEAMROLLERS team, representing Superior STEAM, a Bedford robotics club, was named an Innovation Project finalist. 

FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to children through fun hands-on learning. Students, with guidance from adult coaches, build custom robots using LEGO pieces. Participants gain problem-solving skills as they grow their knowledge of coding and design skills through STEM learning and robotics. The 2026 competition season will begin in August.
