WASHINGTON – Daviess Community Hospital has completed a $3.7 million renovation and relocation of its laboratory services, significantly enhancing patient care and experience while increasing the overall size of the lab.
A news release from the hospital said the investment underscores DCH’s commitment to continuously improving healthcare accessibility, comfort and reliability for patients and the wider community.
The relocation project moved the laboratory to a more accessible location near the front corner of the hospital, just steps away from the hospital’s welcome desk in the main lobby. This comprehensive renovation expanded the laboratory’s space by approximately 30%, increasing the total area to nearly 4,500 square feet.
The newly designed space emphasizes patient comfort, efficiency, and convenience, featuring a comfortable waiting area, two additional blood-drawing stations for reduced wait times, an extra restroom dedicated to specimen testing, and significantly increased laboratory testing space. These enhancements aim to facilitate quicker processing times and improved patient flow, providing an overall superior patient experience.
“Our goal at Daviess Community Hospital is always to prioritize patient needs and comfort, and this significant upgrade reflects our commitment to that mission,” said Hannah Summers, MBA, MLS (ASCP)CM, director of laboratory services at DCH. “This new laboratory facility not only enhances our diagnostic capabilities and efficiency but also provides our community members with a more comfortable and welcoming environment. Patients can trust that their care remains at the forefront of every decision we make.”
DCH Laboratory Services offers comprehensive testing, including blood work, urinalysis, microbiology cultures, pathology tests, immunology and serology, molecular diagnostics, hematology, clinical chemistry, endocrinology, and toxicology screening. The facility continues to welcome walk-in patients without appointments, further demonstrating DCH’s commitment to convenient, accessible healthcare.
The new laboratory space will open for patient services Sept. 23.
“The expansion and modernization of our Laboratory Services exemplify our ongoing dedication to investing in state-of-the-art facilities that significantly improve patient experiences and outcomes,” Summers added. “We are proud to provide this essential service right here in our community.”
Daviess Community Hospital continues to focus on proactive growth, patient-centered improvements, and accessibility as cornerstones of its strategic vision. The completion of this laboratory relocation and expansion represents another significant milestone in DCH’s mission to be the healthcare provider of choice for the communities it serves. For more information about laboratory hours, preparation guidelines, or other services provided, visit dchosp.org/lab or contact DCH Laboratory Services at (812) 254-2760.
