PIKE COUNTY – The Pike County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Powered by Pike event that is showcasing Pike County’s power generation history. The public is welcome to the open house style event this Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET at the Elmer Buchta Technology Center in Petersburg.
During the event, visitors will be walking through the history of coal mining and power generation in Pike County. Companies will be present to discuss the alternative energy projects that are in construction and what the future of the power industry looks like. Pike County has been generating power since the 1800s and is part of the county’s identity.
“With our talented workforce and interconnection capabilities, Pike County will always be an active player in the power generation space,” said Ashley Willis, executive director of Pike County Economic Development.
Jill Hyneman, executive director of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, said, “The Power by Pike event is celebrating our past while embracing our future. This will help unite the county as we move forward with coal, natural gas, and renewable power generation.”

All are welcome at the Aug. 14 event. Refreshments available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We hope to see everyone come and celebrate the many power generation assets in Pike County.
