Bortner named new CEO of Lawrence Co. Economic Growth Council

BEDFORD – Dan Bortner is the new CEO of the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council.

Bortner’s selection to lead the Growth Council was announced Tuesday. 

Bortner recently retired from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, where he served as the agency director of DNR for five years following 15 years as director of the State Parks division. He is a lifelong resident of Lawrence County and currently serves on the Bedford City Council.

“I look forward to helping Lawrence County Businesses thrive and to invite new businesses to our community as well,” Bortner said. “A rising tide lifts all ships and we will create opportunity for businesses to succeed here. What better way to improve the quality of life for those who call Lawrence County home!” 

“Both the Council and the Chamber are fortunate to have Dan at the helm. I’m excited to see where he takes us,” said Nick Webb, president of the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council Board.

“Dan’s insight and connections within our community will bring about welcomed changes for both of our organizations,” said Sally Miller, Bedford Chamber Membership & Communications director.

The LCEGC is a non-profit, local economic development organization (LEDO) formed to support growth of Lawrence County businesses including startup support, workforce solutions, and technical assistance which promotes investment that improves the quality of life for the county’s residents. 

The growth council’s scope includes:

  • Business Retention & Expansion 
  • Business Attraction 
  • Career Development
  • Education and Training Development
  • Quality of Place Enhancement 

Bortner succeeds Shance Sizemore, who led the LCEGC from 2016 until his resignation in April.
