Perry Co. attraction program named one of America’s Most Welcoming Places by MakeMyMove

Southern Indiana Business Report

TELL CITY – The Perry County Development Corporation (PCDC) has been recognized by MakeMyMove as the force behind one of America’s Most Welcoming Places – a designation that highlights the organization’s thoughtful, people-centered approach to relocation and community growth.

This national honor stems from PCDC’s leadership in developing and managing a relocation campaign that pairs financial incentives with deeply personalized support for new residents. The program focuses not just on attracting people to the area, but on building authentic relationships, offering hands-on support, and helping individuals and families connect meaningfully with the community.

The relocation package, valued at over $9,200, includes:

  •  $7,000 in relocation cash
  • Three months of free high-speed fiber internet
  • Complimentary gym memberships
  • A curated welcome basket of local goods
  • Free tickets to community events and experiences

“Our goal has always been to make Perry County more than a destination – it’s a place people can call home,” said Erin Emerson, president & CEO of PCDC. “This recognition reinforces that what we’re doing is working: we’re attracting new residents who bring talent, energy and a strong desire to be part of our community.”

PCDC’s Marketing & Special Initiatives Manager Shiraz Mukarram plays a key role in bringing that vision to life by working directly with applicants to understand their needs and help them integrate into the community.

The return on investment has been significant: to date, 16 households consisting of 38 new residents have relocated to Perry County through the program. These new neighbors contribute an estimated $711,300 in annual economic impact, with a projected $3 million over five years.

The program generates approximately $121,400 in annual tax contributions and supports the creation of over nine jobs annually. The average household income of participating families is $95,000, and notably, 58% had no prior connection to the area, demonstrating the program’s reach in attracting fresh talent and energy.

As one recent mover shared, “When you move to Perry County, you don’t just get a new home – you get a community.”
