BLOOMINGTON – Ivy Tech Community College’s Bloomington campus is offering a free Certified Clinical Medical Assisting (CCMA) training course. The 16-week class will be held July 23 through Oct. 31 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the North Lawrence Career Center in Bedford. Costs for the training course and certification exam are paid for by a grant from IU Health.

The CCMA skills training course is designed to quickly prepare students for work as professionals in multiple healthcare settings. Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an electrocardiogram (EKG), obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients and other related tasks.

The course includes in-person instruction and a certification exam administered by the National Health career Association (NHA). In addition to preparing students for entry-level clinical medical assisting jobs, this course is also ideal for students interested in pursuing a future Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or nursing (LPN/RN) career.
