BLOOMINGTON – Applications are open for Code/IT Academy, a free 10-week training to grow Indiana’s tech talent pool and help Hoosiers access higher-paying jobs in the digital economy.
The Mill announced today that thanks to a $1,370,325 grant awarded from the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI), Code/IT Academy is in the midst of a 10-county expansion in the Indiana Uplands region. As of today, applications are accepted from residents of Monroe, Crawford, Washington, Daviess, Orange and Dubois counties.
“We are incredibly grateful to READI, ROI, and the IEDC for sharing our vision of Indiana as a leader in tech, and for funding the expansion of Code/IT Academy to reach more Hoosiers,” said Pat East, executive director of The Mill. “The Uplands has enviable assets and opportunities for both tech companies and tech talent. Code/IT opens the door to those opportunities a little wider, to bring more folks into the new economy and its good-paying jobs.”
The Summer 2024 session will prepare participants to pass the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Practitioner Exam. It includes a detailed overview of cloud concepts, core services, security, architecture, pricing and support.
“Venturing into the tech world always scared me, but I’m so glad I finally decided to take the risk,” said Natalie, a Code/IT Academy graduate. “The Code/IT program has allowed me to step back into a classroom with comfort and access new material with ease.”
Code/IT’s 10 weeks of free training prepares individuals for certifications and jobs in Amazon Web Services as well as web development, IT administration and CompTIA Security+. Ivy Tech instructors teach each session of Code/IT at The Mill and live-stream content to satellite county locations with on-site facilitators. Participants also have the opportunity to join study groups, hone soft skills, and receive career coaching through Ivy+ Career Link.
“We’re excited to prepare these students for the AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam,” said Andy Lehman, head of Accelerator Programming at The Mill. “There are tens of thousands of unfilled tech jobs in the US. This is a great opportunity to start or advance in a promising career track.”
Registration for the Code/IT AWS Cloud Practitioner session closes May 31. Class starts June 11 and meets twice a week in the evenings. More details and the application form are available at https://codeitacademy.org/ .
