Heartland Development Marketing Group relocates to Shoals; purchases building on Main Street

Carol Johnson, Southern Indiana Business Report

SHOALS – A Martin County native is relocating his business consulting and marketing firm to Shoals’ Main Street.

HDMG LLC (Heartland Development Marketing Group) will focus on community and economic development in Martin County and  the surrounding communities.  Grant Sherfick, who grew up in Shoals and later worked in the defense sector, is principal owner of HDMG LLC.

“After spending the last 15 years in the defense industry, it’s time to take that knowledge learned and experience and focus on efforts within the community that inspired and nurtured our growth. Martin County is a hidden gem with a rich history, amazing people, lots of opportunity, and great potential for growth,” Sherfick said.

HDMG LLC purchased the building at 314 Main St. (formerly Queens Clothing Store and White River Marine). The building also contains Main Street Laundry which Sherfick said will continue operating. Plans for the remaining space in the building will be announced in the coming days.

Located beside Velma’s Diner, the one-level building contains about 3,000 square feet, of which 20% is occupied by the laundry facility. Sherfick said it’s believed to be one of the oldest buildings on Main Street.

“I’m really excited about what we’re planning to do at the building,” he said.

Sherfick serves on the Martin County Alliance for Economic Growth board of directors and is involved with the town’s process to become affiliated with Indiana Main Street, a downtown revitalization organization.

“There’s a lot of momentum in Martin County right now. A lot of people are pulling together to restore downtown and bring back some economic vitality to the town,” Sherfick said.

The interest in revitalizing Shoals is evident across generations, from younger to older residents, he said.

“They are seeing what Shoals and Martin County can be and they want to get involved and be part of the conversation,” he said.

In his role as a consultant, Sherfick can work with businesses to help them bring in new revenue and new opportunities for employment.
