Economic incentive for microelectronics plant would cover 10 years

Daviess County Council expected to vote on abatement in April

Southern Indiana Business Report
WASHINGTON –   The Daviess County Council is expected to vote next month on a tax abatement proposal for a microelectronics plant that will bring more than 500 jobs to the area.

The county is offering a 10-year, 100% tax abatement on a $107 million building. As reported by the Washington Times Herald, Strongbox Inc. of Zionsville will be the owner of the building that will be constructed in WestGate One near Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane.

The original plans called for construction of a 100,000 square foot facility. During the council meeting, council President Tony Duncheon said an additional 25,000 square feet will be added, according to the Times-Herald.

Paul Kite, CEO and owner of Strongbox, told the council construction will begin in June and the facility should be operating by January 2025.

The new microelectronics campus, WestGate One, is a 10-acre public-private development that will create a hub for semiconductor excellence in the Indiana Uplands region, supporting technology innovation, talent development and infrastructure needs while fostering continued partnerships with the U.S. Department of Defense through the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) to advance American-made microelectronics.

Earlier this year, the council gave unanimous approval to a 20-year tax abatement on personal property to each of the four companies that will occupy WestGate One. The four companies, NHanced Semiconductors, Everspin Technologies, Trusted Semiconductor Solutions and Reliable MicroSystems will invest $300 million in the operation.
