Jasper, Linton, Loogootee and Washington all added murals to their cities in 2022, using grants from the Indiana Destination Development Corporation.
The IDDC funded more than 40 public art projects in 33 counties around the state last year. Grants of up to $5,000 were awarded.
A second round of funds will be available in 2023.
IDDC is accepting applications for its next round of public art and community activation grants that incorporate the “IN Indiana” identifier. IDDC plans to allocate $500,000 this year between the Placemaking Activation Grant and the Public Art Activation Grant programs. The program is open to cities, towns, destination marketing organizations, chambers of commerce and private businesses.
In Washington, A Touch of Heaven owner Samantha Killough used her building to create a mural design of wings with a bright sunflower in the center. She worked with the Washington High School Art Club to complete the mural, which incorporated local landmarks like Daviess County’s historic round barn.
Linton’s mural is a burst of color with the town’s “You’ll Like Linton” arch as the focal point. Loogootee’s mural is on the Loogootee Eye Center building.
Applications are due by March 17, 2023.
