Sports wagering topped $2.15B in 2022

Sports wagering in Indiana topped $2.15 billion in 2022 with football being the sport receiving the most wagers, according to the Indiana Gaming Commission Summary of Wagering and Supplemental Tax for December 2022.
A total of $616,828,071 was wagered on football games at the state’s gaming locales in 2022. Football wagering in 2022 dipped slightly from 2021 when wagers totaled $618,560,349. For just the month of December 2022, the football handle was $136,249,589.
Basketball was the second highest in sports wagering with a total of $350,665,185 placed on bets in 2022 at state gaming sites. In December, the amount wagered on basketball was $130,023,875.
Looking at the French Lick Resort casino’s numbers in the gaming report, sports wagering totaled $13,346,493 in December.
The French Lick Resort’s adjusted gross receipts in December were $6,758,527, an increase from November when the casino’s AGR totaled $5,828,744. The casino paid $58,454 in sports wagering taxes and $540,682 in wagering taxes for a total of $599,136 in wagering taxes in December. That was also an increase from the previous month when wagering taxes totaled $534,308.
For the year of 2022, the casino paid a total of $1,977,193 in total wagering taxes, an increase from 2021 when the casino paid $1,581,165 in total wagering taxes.
The state’s casinos, when added together, paid $283,848,773 in wagering taxes in 2022.
