INDIANAPOLIS – The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded nine Indiana airports approximately $7.5 million in grants from the Airport Improvement Program. The FAA says more than $850 million in grants were awarded nationwide.
The annual funding program is intended for infrastructure projects, such as runways and taxiways, airport lighting and markings and signage.
Recipients include:
- Clark Regional: $150,000 for a wildlife hazard assessment management plan
- Delphi Municipal: $150,000) to construct a fuel facility
- Evansville Regional: $2 million to improve an access road
- Franklin-Clinton Co. Regional: $150,000 for hangar improvements
- French Lick Municipal: $526,000 to expand the apron
- Indianapolis Executive Airport: $4.8 million to extend the runway
- Putnam County Regional: $252,000 to construct a taxi lane
- Terre Haute Regional: $150,000 to construct a taxi lane
- Wabash Municipal: $27,000 for wildlife hazard assessment management plan
The agency says airports are entitled to a certain amount of AIP funding each year, based on passenger volume. If their capital projects exceed their available funds, then the FAA can supplement their entitlements with discretionary funding.
